Liberal Initiative (IL) leadership candidate Carla Castro promises a campaign of proximity and “active listening” to members, arguing that the party needs to take “a leap of sustainable growth” and raising liberal flags on the political agenda must put .
In a conversation with the Lusa agency, Carla Castro outlines the general lines of her campaign for the internal elections of the IL that she will contest with Rui Rocha and ensures that she has already put into practice her “proximity policy” during the dinners that her candidacy, after planning “at least 30 more events by the end of the year”.
Underlining the importance of “active listening” to the members because there is a “great desire to contribute” in IL, the deputy and leader promises a positive campaign and the presentation of alternatives.
“The Liberal Initiative’s successful project must now take a leap of sustainable growth and for that sustainable growth we have a capable team and a consistent program,” he argues.
According to Carla Castro, it is “very important” that the party is able to “put liberal flags and liberal proposals on the political agenda”, something she says the IL has not yet managed to do because there are some proposals that are unknown to the Portuguese . .
“In this policy of proximity, we are not limited to being close to the centers in mainland Portugal. We are asking for meetings with the coordination of both the Azores and Madeira, so that we can jointly define strategies for success and growth,” he expects.
More representation of autonomous regions
The Liberal candidate lifts the veil on the global strategic motion that will lead to the electoral convention scheduled for January next year, outlining the goal “either elect in Madeira or multiply representation in the Azores”.
For this strategy for the Autonomous Regions, his campaign has already devised proposals, “from electoral studies on the perception of liberal flags” to “development of the engineering office for a regional component in support of regional policy”.
“We are going to organize meetings with centers outside Portugal, not only to prepare a growth plan for European companies, but also to promote synergies in terms of knowledge of liberal policies,” he also reveals, citing the “very participatory DNA in IL” emphasized. he calls this “constructive unrest”.
Information and training for members, cores and mayors has been “a very strong point” of Carla Castro’s campaign, which promises to lead the party in a “participatory and collaborative” way.
After the surprise announcement of early elections in IL and for which the current leader João Cotrim Figueiredo is not running for re-election, Rui Rocha and Carla Castro, both deputies and the executive committee, are the two names now in the running for the sorority elections which will take place during the electoral convention in Lisbon next January.
