“The most total absurd”: the PCF protests after being sanctioned in the name of parity for having presented too many women in the legislative elections

Fabien Roussel published on Tuesday, September 9, a letter addressed to the Interior Minister, Bruno Retilleau on Tuesday, September 9, in which he asked him to return to the sanction imposed on behalf of parity on the PCF for having presented more women than men in the legislative elections of 2024.

The Chief of the French Communist Party, Fabien Roussel, published on Tuesday, September 9, a letter addressed to the Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau on Tuesday, September 9, in which he asked him to return to the sanction imposed on behalf of the parity on the PCF for having presented more women than in the legislative elections of 2024.

A decree published last weekend established public aid assigned by the State to political parties by 2025; A sum distributed according to the number of votes in the first round of the legislative elections and the number of parliamentarians.

In total, the PCF receives 2.1 million euros. But the sum is amputated with a fine of 68,328.70 euros, in the name of parity. The reason? He presented 35 candidates and 32 candidates.

Roussel denounces a “Ubuesque” sanction

The PCF “had the courage to present more women than men in an election that translates worldwide in a sub -presentation of women in the banks of the National Assembly,” justifies Fabien Roussel in a letter addressed to the Minister of the Interior. During the legislative elections of 2024, 208 women were chosen for the Assembly, against 369 men.

The sanction “is the most total absurd,” argues the National Secretary of the Communist Party, which therefore asks Bruno Retilleau to “return to the spirit of the 2014 law” about the parity of the candidates “, when renouncing this perfectly ubiquitous financial penalty, against the history of history.”

This year, Eric Ciotti’s party (UDR) was deprived of more than 1.3 million euros for having supported five times more men than women.
