OE2023. PAN sees approved study on the impact of the “pink tax”

This Monday, the PAN saw the passage of a budget amendment proposal that provides for an examination of the impact of what it calls the “pink tax,” i.e. how much more women than men spend on similar products.

The PAN proposal was approved after the Socialists changed their position to vote in favour, in the Budget and Finance Committee (COF), in parliament, as part of the state budget vote for 2023 (OE2023).

The PAN proposal foresees that next year the government will prepare and present a study to the Assembly of the Republic on the impact of the “pink tax” in Portugal, which the party says the “amount that products intended for women cost more than comparable products intended for men”.

The party explains that the aim is to “estimate the price differences male and female buyers face when buying products with similar characteristics”.

The PAN says it “intends to ensure that the government investigates the impact of the pink tax in our country and on our consumer market”.
