A small part of the right-wing Republican group has broken ranks. If the LR governing bodies had decided not to vote in favor of the censure of the Lecornu II government this Thursday, October 16, three deputies decided to vote in favor of the overthrow of the Prime Minister.
François-Xavier Ceccoli (Upper Corsica) and Pierre Cordier (Ardennes) spoke in favor of the motion presented by the National Rally and the UDR. This is also the case of Alexandra Martin, but the representative elected for the eighth constituency of the Alpes-Maritimes distinguished herself from her two colleagues by also voting in favor of the text presented by La France insoumise and which failed by 18 votes.
This is what he explained to BFMTV in the four-column room of the National Assembly, after the polls.
“I don’t congratulate myself for it. I wanted to express with these votes the need to get out of this blockade by returning to the polls, but in the spirit and in the order of the Fifth Republic. That is, first a presidential election, then a legislative election,” he explained.
Budget Disagreement
For the deputy, the draft budget presented on Tuesday by Sébastien Lecornu is not satisfactory because it reflects the government’s will to seduce the elected officials of the PS.
“I wanted to express my disagreement with a budget that is in the hands of the socialists and that, unfortunately, will not take us off the podium of world champions of taxation, on the contrary, it will make it worse. This fiscal frenzy will block the French economy and homes,” summarized the representative of the Alpes-Maritimes.
The general secretary of New Energy, the party of the mayor of Cannes, David Lisnard, Alexandra Martin, insisted on her membership in a group of right-wing elected officials calling for the early resignation of the head of state. “Many of us, including David Lisnard, called for the planned early resignation of Emmanuel Macron, through whom all the downgrades took place,” he underlines.
The deputy recalled that she had already voted against the confidence in François Bayrou and defended “a coherent vote” ensuring that “this budget is almost a copy and paste that forgets to fight against well-being, the social and economic cost of immigration.”
A call for the union of the New Center to Sarah Knafo
He also asked for clarification within his in-laws. “We cannot continue like this because our duty today is to build a credible alternative and not leave the monopoly to RN and LFI.”
The deputy also praised the attitude of Bruno Retailleau, president of his party, during this sequence. “He was brave in saying that he was going to leave the government because he was a minister who demonstrated what the right can do at the head of a ministry as important as this to restore order and authority,” he continued.
Now he wants “a grouping around politicians who have the values of the Republican right.”
He mentioned Les Centrists, from Hervé Morin to Sarah Knafo, who “take a liberal line.” When asked about Marion Maréchal, he responded “why not.” “It will be a second step, the first is to build our project, which must be powerful, strong and radical,” he concluded.
