Budget 2026: Boris Vallaud warns that without significant “fiscal justice” measures, the debate “will stop very quickly”

The examination of the revenue part of the state budget for 2026 begins this Friday, October 24, in the National Assembly. Zucman tax, “ISF to the billionaires”… Boris Vallaud threatens to censure the government and explains that “many things will happen this weekend”

The leader of the PS deputies, Boris Vallaud, raises the threat of a government censure if the Macronists do not show themselves “capable of doing fiscal justice” during the examination of the revenue part of the state budget for 2026, which will begin this Friday, October 24 in the hemicycle of the National Assembly.

“If the central bloc is not able to vote in favor of the Zucman tax, this minimum and essential tax on very high assets, if it is not able to vote in favor of the ISF on billionaires, on which we have worked and which we will propose, if it is not capable of doing fiscal justice, I am not sure that it will be possible to discuss the future,” said Boris Vallaud in an interview with Le Parisien published on Thursday.

“Anything is possible. We reserve the possibility of sanctioning at any time,” adds the Landes deputy. “Many things will be at stake this weekend, during the examination of the income in session” in the Assembly, he specifies.

“The Macronists have 48 hours to say what concessions they are willing to make to us,” PS budget manager Philippe Brun told AFP. “If we don’t vote on the first part, there will be no budget,” he insists.

“Tax justice does not exist”

During the recent committee examination (which precedes the Assembly chamber examination and serves as a dress rehearsal) of the revenue part of the state budget for 2026, this text was largely rejected by deputies.

And the Socialists, key to the survival of Sébastien Lecornu’s government, which they chose not to censure last week, have expressed their reservations.

In fact, the Macronists rejected the Zucman tax aimed at the “ultra-rich” and the reestablishment of the ISF.

“The bill is not there. Tax justice is not there and directs efforts to the middle and working classes that are not required of billionaires and multinationals,” insists Boris Vallaud in Le Parisien.
