Examination of the Zucman tax in the day’s program at the Borbón Palace
MPs continue their work today by examining other measures aimed at wealth. Among them will be the famous Zucman tax, defended by the left.
This tax, named after the economist Gabriel Zucman, aims to force taxpayers with at least 100 million euros in assets to pay a minimum tax of 2% on this wealth.
As happened earlier this week in committee, it should run into an unfavorable majority in the chamber: the far right and the government refuse to tax the professional goods targeted by this tax.
The exceptional contribution to high incomes extended by the deputies
The budget review by the National Assembly began yesterday, maintaining an exceptional contribution to high incomes until the deficit returned to below 3%.
Introduced in 2025, this measure sets a minimum tax rate of 20% for households whose income exceeds 250,000 euros per year. According to figures presented by the government, it should raise 1.5 billion euros in 2026.
The government’s plan initially planned to maintain it only until 2026. The left, for its part, wanted to perpetuate and strengthen it.
