Laurent Wauquiez considers that the Zucman tax is “a hoax”
The leader of the deputies of the Les Républicains party, Laurent Wauquiez, recalls that his group “opposes” the Zucman tax on very high assets, supported by the left.
“The Zucman tax is a hoax, it is what I call a trap for fools. That is, we put the Zucman tax on the table, we make the French believe that there is a magic solution that consists of taxing the richest and in the meantime we don’t talk about everything else,” he told RTL.
Laurent Wauquiez once again approves several of his amendments
Tax exemption for all overtime, indexation of the income tax scale to inflation or even extension of the tax exemption for tips… All these measures, adopted in the National Assembly through amendments by Laurent Wauquiez during the examination of the finance bill, will deprive the State of several billion euros.
But the main interested party defends himself on RTL: “We are saying that when we ask the State not to increase taxes, it costs. Even so, it is extraordinary. We tell ourselves that there would be a kind of automatic right of the State to increase taxes every year and if we oppose it in the National Assembly, it would cost.”
The leader of the LR deputies recalls that his group is “against any tax increase” and calls once again to “reduce spending” to “resolve the issue of the deficit.”
Marc Fesneau “calls on everyone to come to their senses”
“One of the difficulties we find ourselves in is that each one tries to show what they are, carry their flag and not move a single line. This is valid between the socialists, LR and the central bloc,” Marc Fesneau, president of the Modem group in the National Assembly, estimated on TF1, calling “for everyone to come to their senses.”
While the Zucman tax is at the center of budget debates in Parliament, the centrist jokes: “We have the impression that the Zucman tax will solve all the problems (…) it does not heal all the wounds of France.” “We cannot avoid reducing spending,” he insisted.
An amendment that increases the surcharge on companies adopted yesterday
In a gesture aimed at the left, the Government presented an amendment that increases the additional tax on companies. It was adopted by the deputies yesterday afternoon.
The government’s commitment proposes allocating the increase from 4,000 to 6,000 million euros to the largest companies. It was voted in favor by 196 deputies against 149.
Debates continue in the National Assembly
