He has been mayor of Saint-Mard for 17 years and Daniel Dometz has no intention of resigning immediately. The various right-wing councilors of the municipality of Seine-et-Marne have just announced their candidacy for the municipal elections in 2026. If elected, he will serve his fourth term.
Daniel Dometz believes he has every chance of remaining at the helm of the city. “The strength of our team is the accumulated experience,” he explains to our colleagues from La Marne.
Additionally, the elected official is pleased to announce that “thirteen elected officials are leaving” with him. Therefore, a good part of his municipal council, with the exception of his former first assistant, Marie-Cécile Gilbert.
The latter had announced, last May, that she would run as a candidate for mayor of Saint-Mard. A rupture between the mayor and his first deputy, which led to the dismissal of the elected official, responsible for the city’s finances. But according to Marie-Cécile Gilbert, another reason would have pushed Daniel Dometz to put his position at risk during the municipal council meeting on June 24.
Marie-Cécile Gilbert, along with two other elected officials, had denounced, a month earlier, “certain criminal practices that affect the public finances of the municipality.” Without warning or transfer of power, the three elected officials were thanked and asked to pack their boxes.
A positive result?
For his part, Daniel Dometz calls for “healthy and rigorous” management of the city’s finances. He claims not to have “resorted to loans to finance” the municipality’s investments for ten years. Among them, a sports space, a town hall, a Gamm Vert store, another shoe store and even a garage will soon open in Saint-Mard.
The councilor welcomes a very positive assessment and makes Saint-Mard “a dynamic city, which is not just a dormitory city”, in particular thanks to an associative network of about fifty structures.
Regarding the program, the mayor commits not to increase “the municipal part of taxes during the next term.” However, he does not reveal other points of his project, but assures that it will be “deliberately global and unifying, and designed to amplify the current territorial dynamism.”
