The vote was decided by one vote, but the National Rally was victorious. The extreme right deputies, who control the agenda of the National Assembly this Thursday, October 30, on the occasion of their “parliamentary niche”, adopted a proposed resolution aimed at denouncing the 1968 agreements between France and Alegría.
The text, whose value is not binding, obtained 185 votes in favor and 184 against. Among the deputies in favor of the text are obviously those from the RN groups and their ally the UDR, but also the LR deputies present, as well as those from Horizons, Édouard Philippe’s party.
The left-wing parties spoke out against this proposed resolution. Like the majority of the Macronist deputies present, although three of them preferred to abstain.
For several weeks now, a part of the political class has been calling for the end of the 1968 agreements in the context of the Franco-Algerian diplomatic crisis. The 1968 agreement created a single status for Algerian nationals in terms of movement, residence and employment. Emmanuel Macron has always opposed the end of this treaty.
