The Criminal Code establishes that a person convicted of squatting faces one year in prison and a fine of 15,000 euros. The bill examined since Monday seeks to triple these penalties, increasing the maximum prison sentence to three years and the fine to 45,000 euros. In the Modem group, some deputies should vote for it, others abstain. But several, within the Renaissance partner group, complain about the method and denounce the way of doing things of the group’s president Aurore Bergé, who is close to the speaker Guillaume Kasbarian.
