No one expected him except him and some of his closest friends. The socialist Georges Méric announced his departure from the presidency of the Haute-Garonne department, we found out in the parisian.
It is no surprise for the main stakeholder who had promised before the start of his second term in 2021 to retire at 75. The chosen one thus respects his commitment. And even in advance because his birthday is on December 3.
‘There is no sudden decision. I had informed my close political environment of this 18 months ago. Therefore, it is a long-considered and applied decision”, assures Georges Méric to the Parisian.
“I don’t see why I would have told you I was leaving my position. You would have told me it wasn’t serious. You may be surprised to see me come out, but I’m not a classic politician. I’m a little weird…”

President of the Departmental Council since 2015, Georges Méric assures that he “neglected [son] body and [sa] health” since he took office. This doctor, who also suffers from “some heart problems”, says “it is not reasonable to continue this dangerous evasion”.
The man who was also mayor of Nailloux (Haute Garonne) between 1983 and 2008 now wants to “live closer to [sa] family” and “spend more time with [ses] four little boys.”
Georges Méric who describes himself, always in the parisianAs “a political dinosaur” of the “Mitterrand generation”, he feels “out of step” with today’s society whose “evolutions” are “distressing” according to him. The socialist punishes as such a “kingdom of insignificance, superficiality, appearance and mediocrity.”
These early Christmas holidays are therefore timely. For the rest, Georges Méric leaves the hand to Sébastien Vincini, first vice president of the department but also national secretary of the Socialist Party. He assures him, the latter “knows the institution and the budget very well.”
