The government’s reform of the economy, which also allowed the prime minister to have a new deputy secretary of state, extended to the Ministry of Finance, announced the presidency of the republic in a new official note.
Nuno Félix becomes the new Secretary of State for Tax Affairs, replacing António Mendonça Mendes, who rises to become Deputy Secretary of State to the Head of Government. The current deputy director general of the tax office, responsible for relations with the taxpayer, the new official has a master’s degree in law and a postgraduate degree in tax law from IDEFF at the University of Lisbon. He was the main technical advisor at REPER (Permanent Representation of Portugal to the European Union), in Brussels, and Chief of Staff to the then Secretary of State for Tax Affairs, António Mendonça Mendes.
As DN/Dinheiro Vivo found out, the current Secretary of State for Finance, João Nuno Mendes, who moves to the new Secretary of State for Finance, will be the runner-up to Finance Minister Fernando Medina, who will replace him when he is absent. Among the main tasks, emphasis should be placed on monitoring the strengthening of public debt management and international relations.
Alexandra Reis, currently president of NAV Portugal, was chosen for the Treasury portfolio. She was an executive director of TAP between 2020 and 2022, following the departure of private shareholder David Neeleman, and remained on the team of current CEO, Christine Ourmiéres-Widener, until February of this year. He was responsible for relevant areas such as procurement, human resources and IT. With extensive experience in managing multiple companies, she is a senior teaching fellow at AESE Business School and visiting lecturer at Porto Business School.
Sofia Batalha remains Secretary of State for the Budget.
