The communist general secretary this Sunday in Torres Novas reaffirmed the vocation of the party as the voice of the workers, the people and the youth, in struggle and protest, and assured that the party will not be stopped in time.
Paulo Raimundo spoke at the end of a luncheon/gathering for the campaign “Make injustice a force to fight! – more wages and pensions, health and housing”, which gathered about 300 people at the Boquilobo Recreational and Cultural Center, in the municipality of Torres Novas, in the district of Santarém.
To the “opponents” who continue to teach the party “lessons” about what it says, who it says it to, how it says it and when it says it, the PCP’s new secretary-general insisted that he will continue. as always, to talk about the workers, the people and the youth.
“And who would speak otherwise, if not the workers’ party itself?” he wondered, adding that he will continue to speak of the people, because the party is “part of this people capable of extraordinary achievements, such as the April Revolution.”, and of the youth, for their right to education, culture, sport, leisure, work with rights, housing, the right to start a family
The PCP, he added, remains “by your side in the fight against insecurity and low wages”.
“They say that the fighting has now returned, as if it had ever stopped. What world did these scribes walk and live in? Has the fighting stopped? Let the workers in the factories and workshops say so,” he said, assuring that “it fight was not on vacation”.
“They say we are a protest party again. Yes, it’s true, they expect nothing from us but a firm and determined fight against the right-wing policies, the policies of impoverishment and the attack on our sovereignty,” he added, stating that the PCP is fighting to “build an alternative and solutions for the country”.
Paulo Raimundo assured that “the environment in the party is good, of confidence, of great will and of great commitment”, asking to look at the PCP for what it is and not for what they say it is, like “it element of hope and the future that it is”, as an “instrument of struggle and construction of the right to a dignified life”.
In a 17-minute intervention, Paulo Raimundo criticized the Socialist government for “not allowing the fixing of prices for the food basket, fueling speculation”, for refusing the free pass for young people and imposing limits on household rents and evictions . “at a time when the Bank of Portugal is shamefully announcing that the average mortgage loan repayment will increase by more than 30% by the end of 2023”.
“What to say about these options at a time when economic groups are announcing four billion euros in profits in the first nine months of the year. What is this strange crisis? This is not a crisis, this is injustice. All this and much more , was currently rejected in the state budget. Workers and population are worse off, major economic groups are satisfied,” he stated.
The Secretary General of the PCP also spoke about the “more than fair battles” being fought in the district of Santarém, in sectors such as agriculture, health, railways or the environment.
