Nicolas Sarkozy reiterates his call for dialogue between Emmanuel Macron and LR

In comments reported by the figarothe former head of state asks Emmanuel Macron to approach the LR deputies and invites them to accept a rapprochement.

Nicolas Sarkozy did not vote in the Republican (LR) congress, whose first round took place this weekend. However, he is still present in the political life of the party he created. The former president called again this Sunday for a rapprochement between his political formation and that of Emmanuel Macron – whose majority in the National Assembly is only relative – during a speech before the Representative Council of French Jewish Institutions (Crif), reports le figaro.

Nicolas Sarkozy addressed both the President of the Republic and the LR parliamentarians. To the first, the sixty-year-old tells him that “it is not about saying ‘I agree 100% with Emmanuel Macron'”.

“This is about France! Are we helping France or do we have a political crisis on top of all the crises it is experiencing? That is the question that arises.”

A “power that extends its hand” and “opposition people that take it”

In the other sense, Nicolas Sarkozy advises Emmanuel Macron to “take into account all those who have not voted in favor of the motions of no confidence”. The deputies of LR, in fact, have not voted for any of these provisions that allow the overthrow of the government since the beginning of the legislature. This election was even decisive on October 24 when the RN chose to vote in favor of the motion of no confidence of the Nupes.

“President Pompidou had a very fair formula, it is always the president, that is, the strongest, who must reach out to the weakest,” insisted Nicolas Sarkozy. And the former head of state to summarize:

“You need power that spreads, and you need people in the opposition to seize it.”

For now, the second part of the equation is missing. Certainly, Emmanuel Macron is in favor of the scenario mentioned by Nicolas Sarkozy: “Yes, I want there to be an alliance”, he declared on France 2 a few weeks ago; but both Éric Ciotti and Bruno Retaileau, qualified for the second round of the LR congress, are strongly opposed to this option.

“If I had to do it again, I would do it again”

For several months now, Nicolas Sarkozy has created a stir in his in-laws. In the second round of the presidential elections, he had clearly announced that he would vote for Emmanuel Macron when the party leadership had settled that “you cannot vote for Marine Le Pen”.

“I thought it was better for France. And if I had to do it again, I would do it again,” he reaffirmed this Sunday, still in comments released by le figaro. “I preferred Emmanuel Macron, I said it because it was honest to say it,” she assumed.
