BE finds ISP increase “incomprehensible” and “inexcusable”

The coordinator of the Left Bloc, Catarina Martins, found it “incomprehensible” and “inexcusable” that the government decided to “raise the tax on petroleum products (ISP), a measure that “undetermined the fall in fuel prices”.

“It is absolutely incomprehensible that the government decides to increase the ISP and thereby reverse the reduction that would be expected tomorrow. [segunda-feira] in fuels🇧🇷 Fuel has had absurd prices, prices that affect the whole economy and the government’s action by not letting prices fall is an action that will harm everyone,” said the BE leader.

Catarina Martins, addressing journalists at the Estela fair in Póvoa de Varzim (Oporto district), stressed that “Portugal is one of the countries where food products have increased the most”, so she repeated her criticism of the government for “inflation don’t keep up”.

“We have a government that didn’t raise wages and didn’t follow inflation. It didn’t control prices,” he said.

The leader of the Left Bloc defended the “control of price margins and energy prices”, admitted that the ISP may not be the solution and stressed that “this is an impossible situation for the country”.

“We know there is an international crisis that the government has not chosen. But the government chooses the response it gives to the crisis and by freezing wages and not allowing them to follow inflation, by not allowing fuel prices to fall through taxes, you are exacerbating the crisis and that is inexcusable”he concluded.

The Ministry of Finance announced on Friday that there will be a discount on the ISP discount of 3.9 cents per liter of diesel and 2.4 cents per liter of petrol in December, taking into account the price drop.

In a statement, the guardianship referred that, as announced, “the mechanism applicable to the ISP is equivalent to a reduction of the VAT rate from 23% to 13% and the compensation mechanism through the reduction by the ISP of the additional VAT revenues resulting from variations in fuel prices remain in effect.”

Thus, taking into account the evolution of the price of diesel and gasoline, “these temporary measures lead to a reduction of the ISP discount by 3.9 cents per liter of diesel and 2.4 cents per liter of petrol🇧🇷 This leaves a discount of 17.1 cents per liter on diesel ISP and 15.4 cents per liter on petrol ISP,” the same note reads.
