The PCP’s general secretary, Paulo Raimundo, accused the PS on Saturday of wanting an early election to remove the restrictions imposed by the party and to embarrass the people.
“It is in the light of this path, these options, that the PS clearly shows what is to come and why it did everything for an early election, because it wanted to free itself from the restrictions we caused and thus make a start with the restrictions towards our people,” he stated.
Paulo Raimundo spoke in Covilhã at the closing session of the XII Assembly of the Regional Directorate of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) in Castelo Branco, which took place under the motto “Take the initiative, strengthen the party, fight for the development of the District”.
During the intervention, the communist leader highlighted several of the problems he believes are affecting the people and stressed that the PCP has proposals for each of these problems. But, he emphasized, these are rejected by the PS, as happened with about 400 proposals presented in the National Budget for 2023.
“They are all rejected by the PS, the same PS that asked for free hands to rule without restrictions. It’s good to see why,” he said.
Among the examples of the policies followed by the PS, the Secretary General of the PCP pointed to the agreement signed in social dialogue, which represents a “wage cut” for Paulo Raimundo because it establishes in practice a maximum ceiling of 5 .1% for increases.
He stressed that the agreement was welcomed “by the bosses of the bosses”, also made it a point to guarantee that wages are not determined solely by “the will of the bosses” and promised that the “fair and increasingly necessary struggle” will continue to determine the value of the wages.
In the list of situations, he also added the issue of the ‘golden visa’ and the fact that the PS had promised to end this measure, after subsequently voting against the PCP’s proposal, as well as the rejection of the proposal to increase the maximum toll.
“A PS which, not so long ago, also declared, through the voice of its secretary-general, with some composure and determination that the only thing missing was the 10% toll increase,” he added.
Paulo Raimundo believes these cases show what he classified as a policy of restrictions on the people, after reiterating that the PCP “will not let its arms down” and will continue to fight for an alternative.
“The PS is disappointed if it thinks it will implement its policies, its options, calmly. If the major economic groups rest with this government, the workers, the population, the pensioners, the small and medium-sized entrepreneurs.” , young people have plenty of reasons to speak up,” he added.
He welcomed the example he found today and also made a clear call for mobilization: “Let’s talk, let’s clarify, let’s convince, let’s take the initiative. Let’s add more and more strength and of course win more people to our party and recruit.” We are going to integrate them into our work, give them tasks, also make them responsible for this intense contact work that lies ahead of us”.
