After his conviction, Adrien Quatennens suspended for 4 months from the LFI group in the Assembly

Sentenced to 4 months in suspended prison, the deputy was “temporarily” separated from the movement.

The resolve of rebellious France has fallen. Following the sentence of Adrien Quatennens to 4 months in prison for domestic violence, the parliamentary group announced this Tuesday afternoon “its temporary radiation of him for a period of 4 months” in a press release.

His return is also “conditional on his commitment to follow an accountability course on violence against women with feminist associations.”

With this decision, Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s movement wants to show that it takes into account the conviction of its elected official, without demanding his resignation. However, several voices among the environmentalists have demanded his departure, such as Sandrine Rousseau.

discomfort in LFI

The Northern deputy was finally sentenced this Tuesday morning for “violence without disability committed by the spouse” between October and December 2021, as well as for “regular and malicious sending of messages” to his wife, by SMS and WhatsApp, between August and August. September 2022.

On the LFI side, some are however uncomfortable with the return of Adrien Quatennens, now “scheduled for April 13”, in a movement that wants to engage with the issue of violence against women. The deputy Clémentine Autain had also called on the rebels at the end of November to “be fair and audible in this file”.

“No one” within the parliamentary group considers that a “return is impossible,” the new LFI coordinator, Manuel Bompard, had assured this Monday in France inter.

Now it remains to convince the rebels’ partners within the Nupes that these sanctions are the right ones. Nothing less certain when Olivier Faure and Fabien Roussel opened the door to the resignation of Adrien Quatennens last November, after new accusations by his wife.
