Adrien Quatennens received a four-month suspended prison sentence on Tuesday for “violence” against his wife. In an interview granted to the voice of the northHe denounced “disproportionate ruthlessness” and “an unprecedented media lynching” and intends to “honor the mandate entrusted (to him)” in the La France insoumise group.
For Sandrine Rousseau, a guest on BFMTV this Tuesday night, “the schedule is too fast.” The deputy Europe Écologie-Les Verts believes that in addition to the judicial decision, it is necessary to go through a “political sanction”.
“We grid stages”
Adrien Quatennens has thus received a 4-month “temporary radiation” from his group, offering him the chance to sit down again on April 13. Sandrine Rousseau believes for her part that the representative of the North cannot ask for his rehabilitation “on the day of the trial, when he has just been sentenced.”
“For me there are three stages: sanction, repair, rehabilitation,” launches the chosen one.
“It takes time, humility, words towards his ex-wife, recognition of the violence committed… There we are skipping steps”, continues Sandrine Rousseau.
“The contract in which he was chosen is broken”
For the green deputy, the situation requires “a political sanction (…) because politicians have a duty to set an example.” He also deplores a “minimization” of cases of violence against women.
“If there was a conviction for anything else, there would be much broader calls for resignation,” he said.
The elect also points to a law approved during the term of François Hollande that allows the discussion of disqualification penalties for deputies in case of embezzlement. This is not the case in cases of violence against women. “We have to change that,” she says.
Consequently, Sandrine Rousseau believes that Adrien Quatennens cannot continue his term as he wishes, but must instead represent himself to the voters of his constituency in a by-election. “The contract in which he was chosen is broken in some way,” she justifies herself.
