After the communist parliamentarians, the deputy of the LFI Carlos Martens Bilongo presented this Thursday a bill aimed at prohibiting the advertising of sports betting, in “exponential growth” during the World Cup in particular and that cause addictions.
“Advertising reaches the foot of the buildings” through mobile phones and “the youngest and most precarious” are affected, the deputy-elect of Val d’Oise explained to the press, although games and bets are in principle prohibited to minors.
The LFI group highlights a prevention campaign launched before the World Cup by the departmental council of Seine-Saint-Denis, and the distancing of striker Kylian Mbappé regarding betting, in relation to his right to ‘image’.
The National Gaming Authority, the policeman of the sector, has forecast at least 530 million euros in internet bets in France during the Soccer World Cup, an increase of 70% compared to the 2018 World Cup.
“It is a savings fund shared by fifteen operators”, such as Winamax or Betclic, and the State taxes income from gambling and sports betting, points out Carlos Martens Bilongo.
Online advertising is also targeted
His bill calls for a ban on advertising for any “sports-related game of chance,” even online.
Communist parliamentarians also worked on the issue. The deputy Pierre Dharréville recently presented a bill that provides, in particular, for measures to restrict online gambling and gambling advertising, inspired by those applied to alcoholic beverages or tobacco.
In the Senate, the communist group introduced a similar bill earlier this week, also wanting an “Evin law” for the sector.
The president of the Finance Committee of the Assembly, Éric Coquerel (LFI), indicated that he was exploring the possibility of an information mission “on the financial aspect” of betting.
