France-Argentina: how will the ministers view the final and what are their predictions?

BFMTV questioned the members of the Government to find out in what conditions they will continue this meeting this Sunday and to know their prognosis.

There is no boycott of the executive. While Emmanuel Macron and Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castera will be at the stadium in Doha to attend the World Cup final between Didier Deschamps’ Blues and Argentina, the ministers will be in front of a television screen.

If the members of the Government will see the match in different conditions, those who have risked a prognosis all (or almost) agree on one thing: the victory of the French team…

• Elisabeth Borne, Prime Minister

What she will do: the Prime Minister will watch the match between France and Argentina “in private”, with relatives, on the outskirts of Matignon. He confesses that he watched the Blues’ second game against Denmark in a PMU bar in Calvados.

• Bruno Le Maire, Minister of Economy

What will he do: At the time of the match, Bruno Le Maire will be on the plane bound for the Ivory Coast to meet with President Alassane Ouattara. But the minister assures him: he takes Wi-Fi with him so he can watch the game on a tablet.

Your prognosis: “We’re going to win,” he assures us, but he doesn’t want to risk a more accurate forecast.

• Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior

What will he do: Gérald Darmanin will observe the meeting from the ministry on Place Beauvau. But if he will be very attentive to the scoreboard, it is for reasons unrelated to sports.

Your prognosis: without prognosis but with a very studious environment. Gérald Darmanin will be “very concentrated” in the post-match, being in constant contact with the prefectures and the police. Even during the match, if France is about to win, even at half-time, the “continuation” of the match is anticipated.

What will he do: the Minister of Justice will watch this final between France and Argentina in Paris with friends.

Your prognosis: 2-1 victory for the blues.

What will he do: He will not see the final due to jet lag: he will be in the middle of a negotiation meeting in Canada for biodiversity at COP15 and locked in a room. His team will notify you by SMS. Christophe Béchu says he tried to watch the semi-final on a plane but the Wi-Fi didn’t work. It was the captain who told them about the first goal… and forgot to tell them about the second.

Your prognosis: a 2-1 victory for the French team.

• Olivia Grégoire, Minister of SMEs and Crafts

What she will do: Granddaughter of Jean Grégoire, a Stade Français defender who played ten times internationally between 1947 and 1950, Olivia Grégoire “carries it in her blood,” say those close to her. The Minister will thus watch the game at home, with friends and family.

Your prognosis: draw and penalty shootout… Olivia Grégoire does not comment on the result of the penalty shootout.

• Clément Beaune, Minister of Transport

What will he do: Clément Beaune will attend the party in a bar in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, where he is elected deputy, with activists from the Renaissance party.

Your prognosis: a 2-1 victory for the blues.

What she will do: for the semifinal, she was at the ministry with her team. The entire firm, including her, is registered in an application to see who has bet the best on the results of the matches since the beginning of the competition. By Sunday, Agnès Firmin-Le Bodo will be in Le Havre, either at home with her family or in a bar.

Your prognosis: 2-1 for France “obviously”.

• Marlène Schiappa, Secretary of State for the Social and Solidarity Economy

What she will do: Marlène Schiappa will go to a Le Mans bar with her family and friends to watch this final. For the match against Morocco, she was in a French bar in New York with some friends.

Your prognosis: 3-0 for the Blues, just like in 1998!
