a big step forward
The treatment in question consists of a combination of two drugs developed by the Vertex laboratory, Kalydeco and Kaftrio. This assortment has been approved in France since last March for some patients 6 to 11 years of age, and for one year for eligible patients over 12 years of age.
It is considered a breakthrough against cystic fibrosis, a disease that causes abnormally thick mucus to be secreted, clogging the airways and digestive system.
Part of an innovative class of drugs that target the action of the protein at the source of the disease, Kaftrio is hailed by associations as a breakthrough that, for certain patients, can transform cystic fibrosis into a chronic pathology and stabilized.
