The mayor of Oeiras estimates that the bad weather of the past few days has caused a loss of seven million euros in municipal infrastructure.
Nevertheless, Isaltino Morais praised the reactions of those involved in the cleaning work. “We cannot criticize anything in the reaction,” said the mayor, who visited the center of Algés this Thursday in the company of the minister of the presidency, Mariana Vieira da Silva.
“We are going to pass an ordinance on January 21 and our calendar is that the council will start paying aid from January 15. I thought we would have millions and millions of losses, but after the cleanup it turned out that there wouldn’t be that many, in the order of magnitude of five million [no comércio local]🇧🇷 I expected more, given the size of the phenomenon”admitted Isaltino, who indicates that the health center in Algés can return to work in two or three days. “We need our own suction machines to suck up the mud. But we have more health centers, one in Linda-a-Velha, another in Carnaxide…”he stressed.
The minister, on the other hand, has not set a date for sending aid to entities affected by the bad weather, but hopes that all municipalities will send the government accounts of losses by the end of the year so that the executive can also determine support as soon as possible🇧🇷 “We are working on a very fast process. For municipal infrastructure, there are municipal emergency funds. The most important thing is to support traders and recover equipment”emphasized Mariana Vieira da Silva, who emphasized that “the ability to clean quickly also reduces damage”.
