“I was elected by the people of Lisbon and the Prime Minister has to get used to it”

Carlos Moedas responded to the message from António Costa on Friday, who said the mayor of Lisbon had not called him after his house was flooded.

“We have been in a very difficult situation for ten days. During these ten days I have assisted people from Lisbon, especially those who have experienced more dramatic situations. The Prime Minister has not called me. The Minister of the Presidency has visited Loures and Oeiras , but I did not visit Lisbon but the main thing is quick solutions I did not call the Prime Minister because it was a lot of work and I fought on the side of the people of Lisbon I was elected by the people of Lisbon and the Prime Minister must get used to that. To command this operation is to have serious cases, I have solved cases of people who were left with nothing”he told journalists, on the sidelines of the debate “How to implement transparency and prevention of corruption in the Lisbon City Council?”.

Facing the insistence of journalists, who again questioned whether Costa had called him because of the bad weather that plagued the capital, Moedas insisted that he had received “phone calls from other members of the government, such as Minister José Luís Carneiro and Minister Ana Abrunhosa”🇧🇷

“I was on site, there were days when we had more than 400 people on site. I will do my part and launch the relief fund, but we need the government’s help”emphasized the mayor of Lisbon, who thanked the fire brigade, police and civil protection for their work.

Moedas revealed that the Chamber of Lisbon has an “internet site where people from Lisbon can say what damage they have suffered” so that the municipality can “help quickly with compensation”. “But the government must help,” he stressed.

The mayor says it is not yet possible to quantify the damage, not least because “Lisbon has a different dimension than neighboring municipalities”.

On the other hand, Coins, which will meet merchant representatives this Saturday, thanked Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa for the support. “I want to thank the president of the republic. He is a president who is very close to the people, he is a very unique person who knows how to be. He has been with me since the first hour and called me every day”praised.
