In favor of a reform, against a postponement of the age of majority. Although the government is due to present the outlines of its pension reform on January 10, the main lines are already known: an increase in the legal retirement age from 62 to 64 or even 65 years.
A decline that the French do not accept according to a new survey “L’Opinion en direct” conducted by the Elabe Institute for BFMTV. According to this new survey, only one in four French people (27%) believe that the retirement age should be raised. In detail, only 18% of those surveyed want it to be increased to 64 and 9% to 65.
On the contrary, 47% believe that this legal age should remain at 62 and even 25% believe that it should be lowered.
Retirees in favor of postponing the age of majority
Within the active population, even 49% want to remain at 62 and 31% even want to lower this age. Retirees are more divided: 48% want this legal retirement age to be increased and 44% do not want it to be changed.
Also questioned about the current pension system, the French are in the majority (64%) to describe it as unfair and financially fragile (55%). They are also numerous (72%) to point out the low employment rate of the elderly.
However, they consider it inappropriate to carry out a pension reform in the midst of a purchasing power crisis (60%). In addition, only 31% believe that this reform will make savings in order to finance other public spending on social protection.
Sample of 1005 people representative of residents of mainland France aged 18 or over. The representativeness of the sample was ensured according to the quota method applied to the following variables: sex, age and profession of the interviewee, prior stratification by region and agglomeration category.
