A show of skepticism. Three days after a call for the mobilization of the yellow vests in Paris, the government does not foresee a return to the scale of the movement. It is rather the new groups such as those of SNCF controllers or general practitioners that concern Macronie.
“I do not believe in taking control of an already registered trademark. They are ultra-minority and they are not going to drink”, assures a ministerial adviser to BFMTV.
“Not the starting point”
This new demonstration in Paris launched by the Facebook group of “yellow vests and angry citizens” wants to protest against the pension reform that will be presented next week, inflation and the use of 49.3 10 times by the government.
This demonstration, which will start from the Place de Breteuil in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, does not seem to be mobilizing for the moment. On the various Facebook pages that answered the call, only a few hundred people said they would “participate” for sure.
It is not the first time that the yellow vests have tried to relaunch their mobilization, after having seriously shaken the Executive in 2018, without ever succeeding so far. This is enough to reassure the Government, which has to deal with a flammable social context, between price rises, unions fiercely opposed to the extension of the retirement age and the end of the bonus at pumps.
“Saturday will not be the powerful starting point,” judges a minister.
“Very flammable” groups
The police prefecture does not show its side of special concern given the proximity of the mobilization day. The executive, however, is much more attentive to the new forms of social movements that have escaped the unions in recent weeks.
Social tension, already high, rose a notch in December with the strike of the SNCF train managers, organized through a Facebook group, far removed from the unions. The general practitioners’ strike in recent weeks has taken place under the aegis of a group that calls itself apolitical. “You have to be careful,” warns a macronista deputy.
“With the groups we do not have interlocutors. It is very flammable. And that is why the aggregation of these groups scares me more than union mobilization. But they will not be the yellow vests ”, this chosen one also advances.
Support for professionals in difficulty
Aware of this risk, the government has put the package to the bakers who will demonstrate in Paris on January 23. In great difficulty with the rise in energy prices, this profession has multiplied the SOS in recent weeks.
With some success: Elisabeth Borne announced on Tuesday the extension of her taxes and her social security contributions. Bruno Le Maire, for his part, will allow them to suspend their electricity contract in the event of a “prohibitive” price increase.
The president will be able to lie down next to his bed again on the occasion of the galette des rois this Thursday at the Élysée. Bercy will exchange tomorrow with the restaurateurs. Enough to aspire to control a social outbreak that would escape government forecasts.
