The Ministry of Agriculture denies that the newly appointed Secretary of State, Carla Alves, is involved in any criminal proceedings, in a response sent to Correio da Manhã this Thursday.
The accounts of Carla Alves and her husband, Américo Pereira, former mayor of Vinhais, are being seized following an investigation by the judicial police that revealed that between 2013 and 2022 the couple had declared incomes lower than what was actually reported on the bills were.
Following the news from the CM, the Ministry of Agriculture, headed by Maria do Céu Antunes, now comes to defend its Secretary of State.
In a statement to the CM, the Ministry of Agriculture informed that “the Secretary of State for Agriculture, Carla Alves, is not the target of any criminal proceedings” and that “no legal proceedings related to her husband, Américo Pereira, suggest any form of involvement of the Secretary of State for Agriculture, Carla Alves”.
He adds that “the Department of Agriculture therefore understands that there is no issue questioning his nomination”.
However, the Ministry of Maria do Céu Antunes gave no explanation about the arrested accounts.
