Pension reform: Bruno Le Maire trusts in an agreement with the Republicans

“A path is possible to find an agreement with the Republicans,” declared the Minister of Economy and Finance on Sunday.

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Bruno Le Maire, welcomed on Sunday the willingness shown by the president of LR Eric Ciotti, in opposition, to vote with the majority for “a fair reform” of pensions.

“The Republicans are ready to vote for a fair pension reform, that’s good, I think that what we will present is fair and it will also be effective from the point of view of the balance of the pension financial system,” declared Bruno Le Maire. the channel France 5.

In an interview with the Journal du Dimanche, Eric Ciotti said that he wanted “to be able to vote for a fair reform that saves our pay-as-you-go pension system”, and specified that this reform was justified by “budgetary, demographic and economic conditions”.

A government “open to compromise”

The support of LR is necessary to approve the reform in the National Assembly without the constitutional weapon of 49.3.

The previous Sunday, the delegate minister in charge of Public Accounts, Gabriel Attal, had already praised “the responsibility of those who are consistent with the commitments they have assumed with the French.”

The Government will unveil this Tuesday its reform project, contested by the unions, with a possible postponement of the legal age of departure to 64 years instead of the current 62, after having raised 65.

For Eric Ciotti, the reform must “spread out over two five-year periods”, with an increase in the retirement age to 63 in 2027 and then to 64 in 2032.” “What matters is the overall balance,” Bruno said. Le Maire on the question of age.

Gabriel Attal had already ensured that the government was “open to compromise”, as long as the reform is balanced.
