The leader of the PS Ana Catarina Mendes defended this Saturday that the socialists should be “proud” of the seven years of the party leadership and not “let themselves fall” under the attacks of those who “do not have any political project” for the country .

Ana Catarina Mendes, who concluded the XX Congress of the District Federation of the PS in the Casa da Cultura de Melgaço, in the district of Viana do Castelo, presented an “exhaustive list” of measures taken by the socialist governments over the past seven years for those who support the party “be proud of the work done”.

“Especially so that we do not fall for the attacks that are normal in democracy, but which should not distract us from our focus, the focus of the PS, the focus of those who care about people,” the appeal read. national secretary of the PS and minister of parliamentary affairs.

Before about 150 congressmen, Ana Catarina Mendes said she was confident that, with “the support of all socialists, the PS will continue to fulfill the mandate entrusted to it”.

“We had an absolute majority almost a year ago. Let’s not waste that absolute majority, but let’s put that absolute majority at the service of the people, side by side with the Portuguese, who solve their problems every day,” he said.

“It is worth remembering that we, the socialists, in a context of crisis and external uncertainty and rising inflation, do not announce cuts to people or uncertainties in their lives,” he stressed.

In the approximately 15-minute speech, the socialist leader remembered Mário Soares, on the day six years have passed since his death, and warned of the need to “honor the legacy of the PS”.

Highlighting the fiftieth anniversary of the party’s founding, which will take place in April, he stressed that “the PS must not ignore the problems”.

For Ana Catarina Mendes, once “political responsibility has been recognized, it is not about the scum of the day, it is not about those who, without a political project for the country, enjoy themselves every day, attacking and attacking”.

“When the mistake is corrected, we should be proud of the work we have done over the past seven years,” he said, calling on socialists to “remain vigilant” regarding “those who are attacking democracy today”.

Ana Catarina Mendes insisted on leaving “a word of solidarity, encouragement, friendship and gratitude” to the former president of the PS district federation in Viana do Castelo, former mayor of Caminha and former deputy secretary of state to the prime minister. , Miguel Alves.

“Gratitude for all the work that Miguel Alves has done over the years in this federation. That’s exactly what being a socialist is. Miguel gave a lot of himself to the public cause,” he said, receiving a strong round of applause from the congressmen.

Speaking to the new leader of the Socialist District, Vítor Paulo Pereira, who is also mayor of Paredes de Coura, he emphasized “the energy, creativity, wisdom, intelligence, ability and youth”, and wished him “to inform”, a ” huge national future”.

Vítor Paulo Pereira, who headed the only list candidate for that party body, was elected president of the PS district of Viana do Castelo in December, following the resignation of the former mayor of Caminha and former assistant secretary of state from the Prime Minister, Miguel Alves.

The former mayor of Caminha was re-elected to a final term on that party body on November 4, after being appointed deputy secretary of state to the prime minister.

Miguel Alves resigned as socialist leader in Viana do Castelo district after being accused of subterfuge by the Public Prosecution Service (MP).

The MP’s investigation stemmed from “an anonymous complaint” and also led to the resignation of Miguel Alves as the Prime Minister’s assistant secretary of state.

Miguel Alves, 46 years old, led the PS district federation of Viana do Castelo for more than six years.
