On the eve of Elisabeth Borne’s presentation of the pension reform on Tuesday, the opposition is organizing. On the set of BFMTV, the deputy of La France insoumise Manuel Bompard calls on the French to mobilize together with the unions, recalling that the majority of the French oppose the government’s project. “This bill is structurally a minority one in the country,” he says.
“All the polls that have been carried out on the subject show that between 70 and 80% of the French are opposed to the postponement of the retirement age”, explains Manuel Bompard. Especially since the government intends to extend the retirement age to 64 years and make retirement conditional on 43 years of contributions.
“The question is, therefore, if it is a text of law that is supported by the French. And it is not like that ”, sums up the deputy.
“It is in the street that it will happen”
Is the pension debate over? “The battle begins,” replies the rebel-elect, who overwhelms Emmanuel Macron. “The President of the Republic had the opportunity to prevent a situation that will necessarily be difficult for the country in the coming weeks,” he explains.
“He takes the opposite decision, he is stubborn despite the fact that 70% of the French are against it and that all the employee union organizations oppose this bill,” he adds.
“It is in the street where it will happen”, thus decides Manuel Bompard. If the inter-union decides a mobilization date this Tuesday, the Bouches-du-Rhône deputy calls on the French to go to Paris on Saturday, January 21. A demonstration will be organized there at the initiative of various youth organizations and supported by La France insoumise.
