The candidate for the leadership of the Liberal Initiative (IL) Carla Castro said this Saturday that she has the capacity to lead the party in a way that makes it the third political force in Portugal, through an ambitious program of internal strengthening.
Speaking to journalists at the end of the presentation of the strategy motion to be approved at the IL convention, which will take place on 21 and 22 of this month, in Lisbon, Deputy Carla Castro admitted that she intends to give the party a “solution in governance”, but underlines that there are “red and blue lines”.
“We have our red lines, which are who we don’t want to be with, and the blue ones, which are the circumstances we can find ourselves in. But more important than talking about coalitions is winning all the votes, it’s us presenting alternatives. liberal proposals stand on their own and we want to win the votes of all voters,” he said.
For the deputy, who will contest the leadership of the IL against deputy Rui Rocha and national councilor José Cardoso – both presenting their respective strategic motions this Saturday – the “red lines” go through Chega, through André Ventura, and the Socialist Party,” responsible for the ‘arc of governance’ that has fostered the country’s stagnation”.
“And the blue lines are our conditions for a more liberal Portugal,” argued Carla Castro, whose strategy motion is entitled “A Country in Freedom and Prosperity.”
“We want to be the third national political force and for that we have an ambitious program, whether it is internal strengthening of the party in the country, in which we know perfectly how to grow and decentralize it and evoke the energy of everyone .” liberals,” he argued.
Carla Castro added that at the same time she wants an “outward facing” party, using “liberal moments for liberal academies of belonging and openness to civil society” to do so.
“We want and have ambitions to be not just an opposition but an alternative and for that it is important to grow and confirm our policies. In terms of electoral objectives, we will want to choose in Madeira, multiply the representation in the Azores and we will now prepare for the European elections,” he noted.
The IL leader candidate also said she intends to consolidate growth at the national level, which means preparing for local elections as the party will “always be ready for parliamentary elections” both before and at the end of the legislature.
“We are not abandoning any segments or areas. We want to come together and mark the political agenda. This is a goal we must have,” he stressed.
“Something that is very clear in this team is that we prepare every day. Strengthening the party, both locally and nationally, happens every day. It happens through loose ideas.”
It is done for robustness in the work and this is a team of work, of conviction and structured,” he concluded.
