Union mobilization day against the pension reform: Borne “wants to convince”

The Prime Minister was a guest on France 2 television news this Tuesday night, to defend her pension reform bill presented earlier in the day. Elisabeth Borne returned to the call for mobilization launched by the unions for January 19.

A gradual postponement of the retirement age to reach 64 years in 2030, 43 years of contribution for a full-rate exit from 2027. This Tuesday, Elisabeth Borne revealed the axes of her pension reform project.

A project, at the heart of the five-year period, already rejected en bloc by the opposition, from the National Group to La France insoumise, but also by the unions. As a result of the government press conference, they called for a day of mobilization for Wednesday, January 19. A guest on the France 2 news, the Prime Minister commented on the announcement of this social movement, which the left intends to join.

Elisabeth Borne tries conciliation

Elisabeth Borne wanted to be conciliatory. “I want to convince”, she introduced herself. Referring to the long maturation of the text, and her recent meetings with the social partners, she added: “This project, we have been working on it for weeks. The project has been the subject of many consultations since October.”

She then tried to provide an after-sales service to her project: “I am convinced that we are proposing a project, certainly balanced and therefore requires gradually more time to work, but which includes progress. We take difficult jobs into account. There are also advances in the level of pensions”.

united unions

Words that should not be enough to appease the inter-union.

As a BFMTV.com journalist noted below, this is also the first time in twelve years that the unions will show their unity on the street.
