The CEO of TAP will be heard in parliament on January 18

The chair of TAP’s executive committee, Christine Ourmières-Widener, will be heard in parliament next Wednesday (January 18).

The airline’s CEO hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the Committee on Economy, Public Works, Planning and Housing.

The CEO will respond to questions from delegates regarding the controversial €500,000 compensation paid by TAP to Alexandra Reis, which prompted the former Finance Minister to tender her resignation at the request of the Finance Minister.

This case also led to the resignations of Pedro Nuno Santos, former Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, and Hugo Santos Mendes, former Secretary of State for Infrastructure.

This hearing was requested, in a potestative capacity (compulsory), by the parliamentary group of Chega, after the PS failed to pass the hearing of Christine Ourmières-Widener, who is silent about the controversial compensation to Alexandra Reis.

“Chega believes it is time to forcefully request a hearing from former TAP Executive Committee Chair Christine Ourmières-Widener so that the Assembly of the Republic can finally get to the bottom of the much-needed truth to clear the fog. that surrounds the entire soap,” reads the request released by the party on Monday.

On Wednesday, the prime minister believed the former finance minister had violated public manager status when she was appointed to Navegação Aérea de Portugal (NAV) and failed to repay part of the compensation she received from TAP.

“I have no doubt that there is at least one part where there was a violation of the public manager statute – that was when the female engineer was appointed to NAV and did not proceed to replace part of the compensation which she had received, and admitted that the compensation was legally received,” argued António Costa during the debate on general policy in the Assembly of the Republic.

It should be noted that the PS has already indicated that it will facilitate a parliamentary inquiry into TAP, which was proposed by BE. The aim is to evaluate “the exercise of political management oversight” by the airline, “particularly in the period between 2020 and 2022”.
