“Who could have predicted the climate crisis?”: Macron claims to have been “misunderstood” during his votes

The President of the Republic reacted to the controversial sentence on climate change pronounced during his wishes to the French. According to him, it was an “ecological warning message” and not a “denial message”.

“There was still a lot of bad faith.” In a video posted this Tuesday night on his YouTube channel, Emmanuel Macron explained the controversial phrase pronounced during his New Year greetings on December 31.

“Who could have predicted the wave of inflation thus unleashed? Or the climate crisis spectacular effects again this summer in our country?“He launched then, arousing the indignation of many French.

With this sentence, the Head of State gave the impression of discovering climate change and its impact. This question has bothered elected environmentalists a lot, but also scientists who have been warning for several years about the dramatic climatic events in progress, and to come, if behaviors do not change.

An “ecological warning message”

Thus, in his video responses to “questions about ecology”, the President announced that he had been “misunderstood”.

He justified himself: “They wanted me to say that, basically, I had never read any report from the IPCC, from IPBES, from all the experts and that I discovered climate disturbances in the year 2022.”

According to Emmanuel Macron, during his speech, the head of state wanted to insinuate that “it was even faster than expected.”

It was therefore an “ecological alert message” and not a “denial message” as many wanted to “caricature” it.

The President also announced this Tuesday that he will hold “before the end of January (…) an ecological planning council”, in order to “take stock of what we must do in the coming years and decades.”
