Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moedas on Wednesday confirmed searches by the PJ in the premises of the municipality, which refer to “past mandates”, and announced that the “anti-corruption department” will be presented later this month.
Carlos Moedas spoke to journalists on the sidelines of the inauguration of the new Glovo office in Lisbon.
Asked to comment on the PJ’s house searches, the Social Democratic mayor began by recalling that he was in Glovo “to inaugurate” the office “of an innovative company employing 140 people”.
“I confirm these searches at the Lisbon City Council. I confirm that these searches refer to previous mandates, executives prior to mine. I confirm that we cooperate in everything and therefore the City Council will of course cooperate with the judiciary,” he continued. .
Today he added, “It’s really important to set an example in politics”, recalling that he was “the first mayor of Lisbon to create a portfolio on exactly what transparency is, in the fight against corruption”.
“This month I will present the proposal to the city council to create an anti-corruption department,” announced the mayor, who deemed it “very important”.
“It is the first time we are doing this, it is extremely important that all processes within the city council are completely transparent,” he stressed.
