“We are going to give life to this team spirit”: El Borne asks the deputies of the majority to stay “united”

While several deputies from the presidential party express doubts about the government’s pension reform project, the Prime Minister has called for unity.

Elisabeth Borne urged majority MPs on Tuesday night to “keep the team spirit alive” and stay “united” as some of them expressed dissonance over the highly controversial retirement reform bill.

“Each and every one of us, in our task, in our responsibilities, let this team spirit live,” the Prime Minister entrusted in her wishes to the deputies, senators and MEPs of the presidential party Renacimiento and the allied parties Horizontes and MoDem, according to the attendees. .

She had warned these same elected officials in September of “heavy weather” ahead. “Today, in the face of this strong wind, I think it is more necessary than ever to be true to ourselves,” she said, according to the same source.

“Renaissance, MoDem, Horizons, as well as all those who want to move our country forward with us, we face it together and we will achieve it together, because we will remain united”, insisted Elisabeth Borne.

Convince to promote reform

Although the executive still wants to convince of the merits of his project, despite the challenge, “we will need each and every one of them in the Assembly, in the Senate, in the European Parliament. We will need them on the sets, in the PQR ( regional newspaper, editor’s note), in the field,” he said.

After the day of demonstrations on Thursday, which brought together between 1 and 2 million people, the head of government invited to remain “attentive to what the French tell us” and “enrich the text in the parliamentary debate.”

“But now we can and must defend it with conviction,” he added, while the executive does not intend at this time to reconsider the most controversial measure of postponing the retirement age from 62 to 64 years.

“This is a project we campaigned for. A project that has been agreed upon and improved, thanks in particular to you. This project is necessary, but that’s not all. Let’s not be afraid to say it: this project is right. It brings progress. social,” argued Elisabeth Borne.

The deputy and ex-minister of the Renaissance Barbara Pompili said on Tuesday that “we could not make a reform against the population”, after having reiterated, like two other macronista deputies, that she could not vote “as is” a text “not balanced enough”. .

The head of the MoDem François Bayrou, for his part, called for “improvements” to the text.
