The Constitutional Council issued several decisions on Friday regarding the appeals presented after the legislative elections of June 2022. Among them, the institution rejected in particular the appeal of former minister Jean-Michel Blanquer in Loiret, validated the election of minister Clément Beaune and annulled the election of the Bénédicte Taurine (LFI) in Ariège
The competent body in electoral matters rejected 8 of the appeals presented in 9 constituencies, it said in a statement. He rejected the appeal presented by Jean-Michel Blanquer eliminated in the first round in the 4th constituency of Loiret, won overwhelmingly in the second by Thomas Ménagé (RN) with 63.36% of the vote.
Also valid in the 7th arrondissement of Paris is the election of a short head of Minister Clément Beaune who had won in the second round with 658 votes ahead of LFI Caroline Mecary who had appealed.
The Constitutional Council, for its part, accepted the appeal presented in the 1st constituency of Ariège by Jean-Marc Garnier (RN), eliminated in the first round only 8 votes behind the Anne-Sophie Tribout (LREM), defeated in the second by Bénédicte Taurine with 55.31% of the votes.
A new ballot in the 1st district of Ariège
Ballots with the name of an RN candidate in another constituency in the department “were mixed up with those with the name of Jean-Marc Garnier, at polling stations in the city of Tarascon-sur-Ariège,” the organization said, which found 136 ballots in the name of the other RN candidate.
“Given the difference (…), the non-consideration of the irregular ballots (…) in the counting of the votes could have had the effect of modifying the identity of the qualified candidates for the second round and thus altering the sincerity of the ballot”, estimated the Constitutional Council.
For this constituency, a new election must be organized within three months. He rejected appeals in six other districts, validating the tight election results.
The elected representatives in question are: Jean-Marc Tellier (Nupes) in the 4th constituency of Pas-de-Calais, Jean-François Lovisolo (Renaissance) in the 5th of Vaucluse, Brigitte Klinkert (Renaissance) in the 1st of Haut-Rhin, by Damien Adam (Renaissance) in the 1st Seine-Maritime, Fadila Khattabi (Renaissance) in the 3rd Côte d’Or and Robin Reda (Renaissance) in the 7th Essonne.
