Chega’s president proposes to get “the best result” in the party’s history in the next European elections and “start creating an alternative to socialism now” to “be a government”.
“Chega, with the values shown by all polls, must prepare to become the government of Portugal. This candidacy gives the party a goal: to start now creating an alternative to socialism, a credible, modern and above all with the eradication of corruption and impunity as the main objectives to be achieved”reads in the motion by which he is running for party leadership.
In the text, which Lusa had access to, the Chega leader points out, among other things, “fundamental challenges for the future”. “the party’s municipal consolidation and greater efficiency in its internal functioning, the preparation of big bets for the Madeira and Azores regional elections and the 2024 European elections, where Chega hopes to achieve the best result in its political history”.
Referring to the polls that indicate the growth of voting intentions in the party, Ventura warns against this “this path, difficult to walk and full of pitfalls, must continue to be walked at all costs”.
“We must be different and show that when it comes time to be government, we are willing to rule and govern differently. The Portuguese demand and deserve this effort”defends.
The president of Chega considers it “highly likely that the socialist government will not be able to fulfill this legislature to the end”, as it is “drowned in cases of incompatibilities, corruption, badly explained deals and badly managed situations”.
“António Costa took refuge in São Bento and collects only the most loyal, incapable of any critical or modernizing observation. The country is at a standstill because the government is absolutely chained”criticize.
In the re-election motion, titled “A government without corruption for Portugal”, André Ventura argues that “the country must put an end to corruption” and that “in this matter, the government and parliament must be the main drivers of change in Portugal” .
“Whether in a coalition, or, as we hope, leading the government of Portugal, a country without corruption is the great goal that I propose to you to achieve in this new term as President of Chega, already reflecting on the government from Portugal”emphasizes.
If elected, Ventura commits “a ruthless control of the months that the government of António Costa is still in office, not giving an inch – even if others prefer to remain silent or inactive – in the control, in the denunciation of corruption”.
Ventura indicates that he will “use all parliamentary tools that show the Portuguese” that they are “led to the abyss by a bad government”.
In the text, the leader believes that Chega’s “very rapid rise in the national political panorama” was “unpredictable, unthinkable” and even “a miracle”.
“This party should be proud of what it represents in Portugal and of all the transformations it has caused in the political fabric of this country. Despite an absolute majority, a steamroller that wants to impose its will at all costs, there has never been so there has been a lot of noise, there has never been so much transparency, never so much questioned a government as Chega’s deputies, leaders and structures”emphasizes.
In the motion that he will submit tonight to the V National Convention of Chega, and which will be presented to the delegates on Saturday, the party chairman believes that internal “this is not the time to change line or form of political action, now is the time to continue the work done and which has brought so many results”.
“The Portuguese are getting closer to our party and believe in the results. Now is the time to fight, to unite, to believe”refers.
The 4th National Convention of Chega will take place between this Friday and Sunday in Santarém for the election of the president and the national bodies.
