Renaissance deputy criticized for her comments about “mothers who choose” to be AESH

Claire Guichard, a Renaissance deputy for Hauts-de-Seine, said that despite the precarious situation of these fellow students with disabilities, “they choose it to have Wednesdays and school holidays.”

These are words that provoke a strong reaction. During the review of the pension reform this Friday, the deputies spoke about the AESH, personnel who accompany students with disabilities at school, many of whom regret the lack of recognition, the precariousness of their status and their lack of deformation.

Next, the deputy for the majority, Claire Guichard, delegated deputy minister in charge of public accounts, Gabriel Attal in the National Assembly, took the floor. “I know many AESH who are mothers who had stopped working and now choose this status to have Wednesdays and school holidays: they assume,” she said.

“Life is made of choices”

“Life is made of choices,” the deputy repeated twice, provoking the indignation of several deputies present in the room.

“They are happy with what they are doing, stop victimizing them,” concluded Claire Guichard.

This statement comes the same day that Gabriel Attal responded to the readers of Provence and he questioned himself significantly about the situation of AESH, saying that his situation had to be improved.

“It is a job that continues to be precarious,” he admitted.

“Contempt”

While chairing the commission, the rebel deputy Éric Coquerel reacted directly to his colleague’s statements.

“I think that we are going to see AESH together, dear colleague, because their great demand is that their profession be taken into account and that we consider that it is a profession of civil servants and not a partial and poorly paid profession”, affirmed the elected official of Seine -Saint-Denis.

On social networks, other members of the opposition were quick to react. “There are people who choose to be paid a pittance for their vocation, that’s for sure,” ironically denounced the socialist Olivier Faureand adds: “In any case, as life is an option, we (the vast majority of the French) have chosen to demolish this counter-reform of pensions.”

“Shall we choose precariousness, lack of professional status, a salary below 1,000 euros? It’s a political choice!” wrote the rebel deputy Clémentine Autain.
