Pension reform: Darmanin accuses Nupes of “seeking to skirt the country”

The Minister of the Interior criticizes in “Le Parisien” the “silly leftism” that defends the idea of a society “without work”, in opposition to the government reform project that carries “the values of effort, merit and emancipation”.

“A fraud”. This is how the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, describes the Nupes deputies, who presented more than 7,000 amendments in the Social Affairs Committee against the government’s pension reform project.

“Los Nupes, the more the days go by, the more leftist voters see that it is a scam. The Nupes only seek to unsettle the country ”, he estimated in an interview with the Parisian.

The government “has no lesson to learn”

Gérald Darmanin also pointed to various left-wing political figures who, according to him, defend the idea of ”a society without work”, in opposition to the “majority of the President of the Republic who defends work, the values of effort, merit and of emancipation”.

“There are those who defend the denial of work, who think that you have to work less and less and defend the right to be lazy, like Madame Rousseau,” he declared before continuing: “Mr. Mélenchon and his friends defend a left-wing fool . idea, that of a society without work, without effort”.

Those who respond to this “dumb leftism” have “ultimately a profound contempt for the value of labor defended by workers and the working classes,” Gérald Darmanin further estimated.

He also assured that the government “has no moral lesson to receive” from this left “that, when it was in power, […] he has never been interested in minimum pensions like we are and has never paid attention to difficult and painful jobs”.

“Yes, we have to work more”

With the reform, which provides for a drop in the retirement age from 62 to 64, the Government is committed to “a society of work and merit.”

“I think above all that a message must first be sent to the French: to balance our pension system, yes, we must work more. There is no need to say anything more and accept it,” he declared, acknowledging asking “an effort” from the French.

If the government intends to continue educating the French, more and more of them oppose the reform project. 72% reject it, according to the latest poll by Elabe “L’Opinion en direct” for BFMTV published on Wednesday, that is, six points more than a week earlier, and 13 points more than the poll carried out two weeks earlier.
