The postponement of the retirement age from 62 to 64, contested by the unions and most of the opposition, “is no longer negotiable,” Elisabeth Borne said this Sunday, on the eve of the start of the examination of the project in commission in the Assembly.
“It is no longer negotiable, retirement at 64 and the acceleration (of the extension of the contribution period, editor’s note) of the Touraine reform,” the prime minister said in franceinfo:
“This is the compromise that we proposed after having listened to the business and union organizations, after having exchanged with the different parliamentary groups (…) It is necessary to ensure the balance of the system.”
Open to discussion on women’s retirement
“If we had a single parameter, then it would not be 43 years of contribution and 64 years to be able to retire, it could be 45 years of contribution period, which seems impossible to us to ask the French,” he pleads in this interview carried out on Saturday, to the margin of a trip to his constituency of Calvados.
The head of government, for his part, is open to a discussion in Parliament about a better use of the terms “education” and “maternity” obtained by women during their careers.
“Today there are many women who cannot use them to the maximum, we are analyzing the situation of these women who (…) perhaps tomorrow they will not use them to the maximum, so that analysis is in process.
The deputies take this Monday in commission the much-discussed pension reform project, for an essay on 7000 amendments, under the gaze of the opponents who organize a high point of mobilization on the street on Tuesday.
