PS Congress: Olivier Faure is delighted to have “overcome” the “hurtful words”

The socialist Olivier Faure was re-elected at the head of his party after days of crisis. His adversary claimed, like him, victory.

The first secretary of the PS Olivier Faure, re-elected with pain after several days of crisis, rejoiced this Sunday at having been able, together with his rival Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, “to go beyond (…) hurtful words and exaggerated disagreements “.

In his closing speech at the 80th PS Congress in Marseille, Olivier Faure acknowledged, thanking his opponent, that “meeting was not necessarily obvious”, after several days of tension linked to the controversial results of the vote to appoint the party. Leader.

“There were hurtful words, exaggerated disagreements and a final week in which many activists felt insulted, disrespected,” he said.

“But you and I have made a decision. That of going beyond these moments” and “doing together instead of against each other”, she said, addressing his opponent.

“We’ll Do Better”

He praised the “spirit of responsibility” of the Norman elected official, who agreed to become the party’s first deputy secretary, along with Nantes mayoress Johanna Rolland, a close friend of Olivier Faure.

“You and I are going to do better. Starting tomorrow, let’s bring the clear demo,” she said.

Olivier Faure joked about this Congress: “Everything is discussed with us. This is what makes us unique, perhaps even our charm. We can spend days debating an orientation. And then spend nights collecting broken crockery.”

“A bond of trust difficult to rebuild” with the French

Returning to Nupes, the main stumbling block with his rival, more skeptical of this alliance forged with the LFI, the PCF and the EELV, he stressed that “for the first time in five years, the French have been able to locate us with certainty.”

“We affirm our unfailing belonging to the left,” insisted the first secretary.

Since 2017, he has regretted “the loss of a bond of trust that is difficult to rebuild” with the French, with “the election of Emmanuel Macron and the appearance of former socialists alongside him.”

The message thus remained “blurred”, according to him: “‘Who is a socialist? An aspiring minister in the waiting room, a traitor in the making.’ That is what many of our fellow citizens thought.”

Put an end to the speeches about “irreconcilable lefts”

Believing that “we are not building anything to proclaim the irreconcilable left”, Olivier Faure said that he wanted to bring with the socialist militants “the affirmation of what we are within the left”.

In an attack on those who find him “submissive” to Jean-Luc Mélenchon and LFI, he snapped: “At this congress I have heard many times about submission. Do not be afraid to submit to the powerful!”

“It is by winning the PS that we can win the left,” he said.
