PCP speaks of “explosive social situation”. “Government gives in or must leave”

Paulo Raimundo, secretary general of the PCP, insisted on Monday that the social situation is explosive, stating that if the government does not respond to the problems, the absolute majority of the PS will not guarantee anything because people will not wait four years.

“We are in an explosive situation socially (…) and no answers are given to that. The problem is that the absolute majority of the PS does not in itself guarantee that it will make it to the end, because, if it is in a situation where there is no agreement with the problems of the country and the problems of the society, the society will find ways to solve it,” said Paulo Raimundo.

The PCP’s secretary-general spoke in Beja shortly after speaking at the opening session of the PCP’s parliamentary days, which take place between today and Tuesday in that Alentejo district.

The communist leader stressed that the population will not “wait four years to allow themselves the same policies that are driving them further and further down.”

When asked if the people have the option to overthrow the government, Paulo Raimundo replied: “the people always control everything”.

“Either there is a political response on the part of the government to solve the problem of the majority of the people while combating the disgrace of these accumulated profits in the hands of a few, or else people need to act more.” strongly for this policy,” he reiterated.

“The government, of two, of three: give in, in the good sense of giving an answer, or have no choice but to leave,” he added.

When asked if an early election would be the way forward for the PCP, Paulo Raimundo replied no.

“No, we don’t have an option with elections and don’t want to make an effort. What we want is for the government to have all the tools, including an absolute majority, to obey, to provide answers.” , to solve people’s problems, that is our whole commitment. Early elections alone will not solve anything,” he said.

Paulo Raimundo believed that the time for the government to provide the necessary answers “is running out, it’s been a year, with all the conditions”.

“If you haven’t provided any answers yet, there’s still time to turn it back… The signs we’re seeing don’t point in that direction,” he warned.

Asked if the PCP’s answer is the street, Raimundo said his party’s answer is “to discuss”, to meet people and talk “with people, look for solutions and, at the institutional level, present proposals”.

“Of course the street too. People can’t be squeezed as they are and just don’t stop reacting. No, they have to react,” he repeated.

The PCP secretary-general made a “negative assessment” of the first year of absolute majority, which marks today, stating that he makes this assessment “not necessarily because there is an absolute majority or not, because it is the PS or not the PS”.

“The balance is negative because we are facing a social and economic situation that requires answers that the government does not provide. Not enough for the essential goods, and there are a few that are filling up on a large scale and in the French way” , criticized he.

When asked what he expects the prime minister to say in tonight’s interview, Paulo Raimundo said he hopes to reiterate that “the government cannot focus on the problem of affairs, that it is necessary to respond to the people’s problems”.

“So, whatever: set the prices of essential goods, stop transferring government money to the private sector, as you did in energy, in highway concessions, etc. That it fulfills what it considers positive,” he stressed.
