Pensions: Stanislas Guerini maintains that 49.3 “is not the intention of the Government”

The Civil Service Minister reaffirmed on BFMTV that the government hoped to win a majority of votes in the Assembly, particularly with the help of the Republicans.

Stanislas Guerini, a guest on BFMTV on Tuesday night, confirmed that Elisabeth Borne’s government was going to “stay the course of this policy” regarding the pension reform, once again contested on the streets in France.

While the text is being studied by the Social Affairs Commission of the National Assembly, a question arises: will the text be voted on in the Assembly? More specifically, can it be put to a vote?

As it does not have an absolute majority, the presidential party must have the votes of the Republican deputies. Although the tenors of the right are rather in favor of deferring the legal retirement age to 64, around fifteen deputies, led by Aurélien Pradié, could vote against it.

“Building a majority in the Assembly”

Stanislas Guerini once again encouraged the LR deputies to support the reform. “Political groups, and Republicans in particular, were welcomed and expressed their support through the voice of their rights leaders,” he explained.

But, in the event of a lack of majority in the Assembly, the Government could compromise its responsibility by activating article 49.3 of the Constitution and thus approve the pension reform without a vote.

A possibility that “is not the intention of the government,” says the Minister of Public Administration. He then added: “Our desire is to build a majority in the National Assembly, it is to convince.”
