Bayou case: EELV sexual violence investigation unit closes the file

The former EELV national secretary had resigned after his former colleague’s report to his party’s anti-sexual violence investigation cell was made public.

File closed. The investigation and sanction unit on harassment and sexual and macho violence of Europe Écologie-Les Verts announced on Wednesday that it had closed the file against Julien Bayou. The former EELV national secretary had been implicated by a former colleague who had contacted the party cell in June 2022.

“The conditions for the application of the protocol could not be found and the initial hearing, the starting point of the investigation, could not be held,” the party leadership indicated in a press release.

The cell against sexual and sexist violence of the EELV, “cannot (therefore) not carry out its investigation”, indicating that it has “decided to archive this file”.

A “satisfying for no one” situation

“This situation is obviously not satisfactory to anyone and we regret the difficult human consequences that this procedure and its media exposure may have had,” adds the EELV executive office.

Julien Bayou had resigned last September from his post as national secretary of the party. He then spoke of an “untenable situation” while Sandrine Rousseau, also a member of the EELV, had indicated that he would have had “behaviors that can undermine the moral health of women.”
