TAP: PS announces to vote in favor of the committee of inquiry proposed by BE

The PS votes in favor of BE’s proposal to set up a committee of inquiry on TAP, but not on Chega, socialist deputy Carlos Pereira announced on Wednesday.

At the start of the debate that will take place this Wednesday in the plenary session of the two proposals to open a parliamentary inquiry into the airline, it was already known that only the BE would be viable, since on January 10 the leading member of the PS, Eurico Brilhante Dias, announced his abstention given the scope and issues raised by the blockers’ initiative.

“We are not voting for the Chega Commission of Inquiry and we are voting for the Bloco de Esquerda”replied PS deputy Carlos Pereira during the debate.

Vice president of the PSD bank Hugo Carneiro accused the PS of presenting itself in the debate in a “timid manner” and of having changed the socialist bank’s position from announcing abstention to voting in favor of the BE proposal.

“The only goal that the PS has in this discussion is to save the finance minister, which even the chairman of the parliamentary committee of inquiry did not want.”criticized the Social Democrat and questioned why he will not also make the Chega proposal viable.

In response, the socialist explained to the PSD that, ‘For the PS, approving a committee of inquiry into Chega is not the same’.

“If there’s no problem for the PSD, there’s a big fundamental question for the PS that I hope there’s no need to explain to the PSD”he answered.

In the final part of the debate, Chega leader André Ventura warned that the party will not fail to question the responsibilities of the finance minister as Fernando Medina’s time “is coming to an end”.

At the presentation of the proposal, BE-deputy Mariana Mortágua defended this “one is forgetfulness, the other is the state of denial reached by the absolute majority of António Costa”referring to Monday’s interview that the prime minister “denied that TAP’s salaries and allowances were a matter for the government”.

“The Commission of Inquiry proposed by the Bloco de Esquerda has simple objectives: to break with the vice of denial and forgetfulness, to bring transparency to the management of TAP, to investigate responsibilities and to reverse decisions that offend employees and that harm the public interest”he explained.

Presenting his proposal, Chega’s president and deputy André Ventura believed that this whole TAP process is “socialist disgrace at best” and stated that the airline is “the new Novo Banco and has named a responsible Antonio Costa and PS”.

Chega therefore wants a “serious and in-depth investigation” because it is necessary to “find out everything and everyone” to find out “how the money was spent” by taxpayers “donating whoever it hurts.”

For IL, Carlos Guimarães Pinto accused the PS of taking an inconsistent stance on the position of the flag carrier and said it will approve the commission of inquiry “but without great expectations”. hear, “have repeatedly concealed the truth”.

PCP delegate Bruno Dias once again urged the need to expand the scope of the Commission of Inquiry — which is immediately rejected by the proposing party, BE — as limiting the investigation to one case “will contribute to the impairment of the image and value of the research.” of TAP and facilitate privatisation”.

In the first intervention of the PSD, Paulo Rios de Oliveira explained why the party supports this Commission of Inquiry and will actively participate in it: “we are obliged to appeal because they lie to us, deceive us and hide the truth from us”.

For the PAN, the only deputy, Inês Sousa Real, assured that the party will vote for the proposals under analysis, since “no one doubts that having a position at TAP is a real million euros” and that the compensation for Alexandra Reis “is just the tip of the iceberg”.

Rui Tavares, Livre’s only deputy, criticized Chega for submitting its proposal for a commission of inquiry after BE’s announcement that it would do so, defending in relation to TAP that “it is necessary to identify all management problems”.
