The party leader of the PS opined on Thursday that the legislative process on euthanasia will be “faster” because it starts in the specialty and announced that the socialist deputies will meet this week to discuss the ruling of the Constitutional Court (TC).
Speaking to journalists in the Assembly of the Republic after a meeting of the parliamentary group of the PS, Eurico Brilhante Dias underlined that his party “very strongly disagrees” with the verdict of the TC, published on Monday, declaring the decree on medically assisted death unconstitutional. read carefully”.
“This week, probably tomorrow, we will hold a meeting with some members of the parliamentary group to discuss not only the verdict, but also the explanations of vote that will be annexed and appended to the judgment,” announced the leader of the socialist group On.
After this discussion, according to Eurico Brilhante Dias, the PS will “hold a hearing with the faction itself”, in order to put forward the legislative changes that it considers “pertinent” and so that a vote can be taken on the medically assisted death bill “once again in the room”.
“It will be a faster process because we will start right away with the specialty of the process,” he underlined.
In these statements to journalists, Brilhante Dias was also questioned about the fact that the President of the Republic had sent the parliamentary decree amending the legal regime of professional public associations to the Constitutional Court (TC) for preventive inspection.
Brilhante Dias pointed out that the PS “awaits with serenity the decision of the TC” on this issue, adding that this issue was discussed at the meeting of the Socialist Parliamentary Group.
“This is one of the laws that we really consider an important reform in access to regulated professions, it had our commitment, but of course, after the decision of His Excellency the President of the Republic, we await the decision of the TC”, he said.
On Monday, the TC declared unconstitutional some of the decree’s standards governing medically assisted death, responding to the request for preventive inspection by the president of the republic.
In response to this statement, the PS has already announced that it will rectify the rules declared unconstitutional, insisting that it is only a “semantic” issue and that most of the arguments of the President of the Republic fail.
