Approved Commission of Inquiry “Political Oversight of Governance” of TAP proposed by BE

BE’s proposal to establish a commission of inquiry to oversee the political management of TAP was approved in parliament this Friday. PS and PCP abstained and the others voted in favour.

The text approved today without votes against in the plenary session of the Assembly of the Republic establishes a parliamentary commission of inquiry “under the political supervision of the management of TAP” which will focus, between 2020 and 2022, in particular on examining the entry and exit of the former ruler Alexandra Reis and the guardianship responsibilities in the decisions made.

Chega’s proposal of a parliamentary inquiry into the “management of TAP and the use of public funds allocated to it, namely the payment of bonuses and compensation to holders of management and board positions in the company” was rejected by votes against. PS and PCP, the abstention of BE and Livre and the votes for the rest.

Also rejected was the PCP’s proposal to extend the scope of this Commission of Inquiry, with votes against from PS, Chega and BE and for the other banks, with no abstentions.

The purpose of this committee will be “to review the exercise of political oversight over the management of TAP, SGPS, SA and TAP, SA, particularly in the period between 2020 and 2022, under public scrutiny”.

The blockades want parliament to investigate the airline’s “process of co-opting, appointing or hiring Alexandra Reis for the administration”, as well as “the other directors and the conditions of application of the respective legal framework”.

“The process and nature of the appointment of Alexandra Reis to the Board of Directors of NAV and the possible connection with the process of leaving the Board of Directors of TAP,” they want to see clarified.

The subject matter of the parliamentary inquiry defended by BE also includes the process of retirement of members of TAP’s governing bodies and “compensation payment practice”, as well as “the compensation paid to members of governing bodies”, in its various parts.

“The quality of information provided to the shareholder and the involvement of public decision-makers in decision-making at TAP, SGPS and TAP, SA” is also part of the committee’s purpose, as are the airline’s management decisions “which may have harmed the interests of the company and thus the public interest”.

“The oversight responsibilities, both of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Infrastructure, in the decisions made at TAP, SGPS and TAP, SA,” can also be read.
