A ridiculous situation. In Dourdain, near Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine), Mayor Isabelle Courtigné disappeared from municipal life for a year, before announcing at the end of January that she was resigning, we found out in the columns of Journal West of France.
In this town of 1,200 inhabitants, the inhabitants had gotten used to not seeing their councilor anymore, the newspaper explains. Absent since the winter of 2021, she was recommended several times to the town hall to indicate that she was sick, without giving any proof or responding to the emails that were sent to her, the municipality told BFMTV.com.
This also tells us that after the abolition of her allowances by her election in October 2022, Isabelle Courtigné no longer justified anything. In her resignation letter, she says that she “made the mistake of believing that [s]Health problems would be short-lived and less severe than they really are,” reports West of France. Justification does not convince the elect.
“We can understand everything, from the moment they explain it to us, but there…”, he explains in the newspaper.
The resignation is not yet official.
For a year, the elected members of the municipal council had to adapt. In the councilor’s absence, his first deputy, Cédric Denoual, ensured the municipal councils. This store manager, as well as the second and third deputies, took action on the matter, dealing with the files left by the mayor. Contacted by BFMTV.com, the elected representatives of the majority did not want to express themselves more than they had in West of France.
Will they run for the permanent position of mayor? For now, they are waiting. The prefecture has not yet received Isabelle Courtigné’s letter.
Elected officials resigned from city council after ‘feeling abandoned’
Once their departure has been made effective, the Local Entities Code provides for two types of designation. Either the city council votes to elect a new city councilor, or new elections are organized.
In the case of Dourdain, the second option should be chosen. Because? Because the municipal council must be complete in the event that another mayor must be appointed during his term. However, the councilors are only 12, against 15 previously in this commune.
Some “felt abandoned” and jumped ship during his tenure, the council tells BFMTV.com, not wanting to elaborate further on the subject.
