Pensions: Marine Le Pen promises to “use all means” at her disposal to oppose the reform

This Monday marks the first day of examination of the pension reform project in the Chamber. Marine Le Pen, who chairs the parliamentary group of the National Group, entrusted as a prelude her intention to use all legislative levers to oppose the approval of the current text.

After weeks of protests – still in progress – in the streets, after committee sessions, the pension reform project reaches the Hemicycle from this Monday. And the battle promises to be as tough in the National Assembly as it is in public opinion for the executive.

The left is not the only one that militates against the text in the Palais-Bourbon: the National Rally is also against the wind. This Monday, during a press conference on the sidelines of the first debates, Marine Le Pen promised, committing the RN parliamentary group that she chairs, to do everything possible to prevent the adoption as such of the government project.

“We are going to use all the means at our disposal so that this text is not voted on as it is”, it launched thus in the explanatory statement.

“And it starts this afternoon”

The elected deputy in Pas-de-Calais highlighted the first meetings of this opposition. “It will start this evening with two extremely important and above all revealing votes for all the groups”, he began and he added:

“First we are going to vote on a motion to reject it. If the one we had presented did not come out by lottery, it is with conviction and driven by the massive opposition of the French people to this text – and without sectarianism – that we are going to vote for Nupes”.

Marine Le Pen insisted again:

“Since the Prime Minister has announced that the two-year postponement of the retirement age is non-negotiable and that no measure will be able to counteract the injustice and anti-social character of this measure, therefore, there is no further discussion possible. and for Therefore we must reject this text”.

The president of the RN group arrived at her second legislative battle to come: “If this motion does not pass, then we would discuss a referendum motion. This time luck was in our favor and that is why it is the Vice President of the Assembly, Sébastien Chenu, who will defend this call to organize a referendum”.

The draws mentioned by Marine le Pen designate the process by which the office of the National Assembly – deprived of all jurisprudence on the matter – chose to decide between similar motions presented by the Nupes and the RN.

Deferral of starting age as yellow line

Despite lingering doubt even within the majority about the merits of the text or its wording, these motions have very little chance of convincing the majority. Marine Le Pen also projected on her failure:

“If none of these motions were adopted, we would begin to examine the text with the same desire, to show its uselessness and injustice.” He went further: “If the reform is approved, everything possible will have to be done to limit its effects and we will vote on measures that mitigate its brutality.” “But let’s be very clear, without the removal of the age measure, there is no chance that we will accept this text,” he said.

Marine Le Pen mocks an “alliance” between Nupes and the majority

It is true that the National Group intends to use “all means” at its disposal to force the executive to review its copy, but it is a process that Marine Le Pen says is prohibited: “parliamentary obstruction.” A means that she accused of having resorted to the Nupes, and which consists of presenting thousands of amendments to slow down the discussions.

Marine Le Pen said she found the practice “quite petty in normal times” and “absurd in limited times”. The former presidential candidate was referring here to article 47.1 under which the government placed the examination of her project and which limits the number of days of debate around the text.

Marine Le Pen then quipped: “I hope that what looks like a new episode of alliance between the majority and the Nupes ends, that the Nupes withdraw their thousands of superfluous amendments and that we can calmly discuss these articles and then vote with a majority against.” of this text”.

Marine Le Pen believes that the government cannot claim a majority on her bill at the moment.
