Marcelo asks teachers for “patience” and believes in solving the problem

The president of the republic defended this Friday that the negotiations between teachers and the Ministry of Education “will go well” and therefore said that “it is necessary to be patient” to the professionals who awaited him at the opening of the Cheese Fair.

“I want to talk. Force the education minister to respect us, because in fact six years, six months and 23 days have been stolen from a career that is already so undervalued”upon arrival at the cheese fair in Celorico da Beira, the President of the Republic asked for a teacher.

During the list of problems teachers want solved, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said “and there are more things to do” and reminded the professionals present that he is also a teacher.

The coordinator of the district administration of the Guard of the Union of Teachers of the Central Region, Sofia Monteiro, delivered an open letter to the PR “representative of teachers from all over the country”.

“It is an appeal to him to intervene with the Prime Minister so that the next negotiations are effective, so that we can solve the problems that the education system has and that teachers are currently facing”said Sofia Monteiro.

In response, the President of the Republic said: “I think they are going well, you have to be patient” and confirmed that he is a teacher and therefore said he understood the claims “perfectly”.

A response that was interrupted by the teachers to say so “a country that does not invest in education and considers education as a cost has no future, Mr. President” and left the invitation to join the demonstration next Saturday in Lisbon.

Questioned by journalists, the head of state defended that the negotiations are “progressing, maybe very slowly, maybe still with fundamental points like the number of connected, like the problem of being more difficult to get time back”.
